Gakushi Guruwa is a defensive site on the path up from Sanrimaru, west of the Osaka Castle keep. Soldiers hid behind its narrow, inconspicuous entrance to prepare ambushes, and it is the only belt-shaped enclosure of the main bailey built when the Edo shogunate rebuilt Osaka Castle. The stone walls bear the marks of the Kato and Koide families, who were responsible for Iyo Ozu domain, Tanba Sonobe domain, and Tajima Izushi domain, and below them the moat and a gozabune are visible. There is almost nothing to see inside.
