Ninomaru Garden sits inside the east gate of Nagoya Castle, north of the Ninomaru Palace where successive lords of the domain resided. It is a circuit-style garden of about 30,000 square meters, divided into a north, south, and east garden, with large stone walls and steep terrain. The first lord, Tokugawa Yoshinao, laid it out around 1617, and it was designated a national Place of Scenic Beauty in 1953. Entry is to a paid area requiring an admission fee.
